We are hosting our annual Meet the Chick Day here at GMF. Baby lovers of all ages are welcome to attend and see why we are so excited about spring. Our educator will be on hand to create a special craft with the children and teach all of us about the life of a laying hen on our farm.

Come and join us this Saturday, March 9th, 2013 from 10am-1pm.

The Farmstand is open for the season. Our hours for March are Thursday - Sunday, 8 am - 6 pm. We have stocked up and are excited to be back.  Come on in and pretend it's spring with us!

The Farmstand is closed for the season, but we are busy working on our plans for next year. We are still taking sign-ups for the 2013 summer season and booking events, field trips and tours as well. Feel free to call the Farmstand at 978-468-3720 with any questions you may have.

The Down Low

Farmers' Report

Yes! We are finally taking orders for our whole chickens. The laying hens cannot be kept over the winter because they won't produce eggs for us. This is great news for you, as you finally get our delicious pasture-raised chickens for your dinner table. These birds are older than your typical broiler (who only live about 6 weeks) and were bred for laying eggs, not growing breasts. They will weigh between 3-4 lbs and we suggest you make some amazing chicken stock or braise them slowly. Each bird is $15 each and you can order yours by calling the Farmstand (978-468-2277) or try out our new online store here! Pick-up for fresh chickens will be this Friday and Saturday, December 14th and 15th. After that, they will be frozen.

There are only 5 days left to order your CSA for next year at the reduced price. I have introduced a new system for CSA sign-ups that I think will be much smoother to use. You can sign up for yours right here on our website. Just click on 'CSA.'

Buying a CSA share is a great value in general, but with the added discount, it's an amazing one!  It's only discounted until December 15th and makes a great gift. A half share is a wonderful way for you to introduce the CSA model to friends and family without it being an overwhelming amount of produce. Thank you to all who have already signed up and supported us through our slower months.

Holiday Events

Christmas on the Farm

This Saturday, December 15th, we are excited to welcome Santa Claus to the Farm. He will be visiting from 12pm - 3pm. Santa will listen to all your holiday wishes, help us make an ornament for your tree, and join us for a hayride around the farm. He has also agreed to draw the winner for the Dollhouse Raffle at 3pm. Come in and get your ticket for the raffle and help us fund raise for Operation Troop Support and ACORD Food Pantry.

This event is free to all! Ho, ho, ho!

Holiday Pies and Cakes

Holly has been busy in the kitchen and she has come up with an amazing menu for your holiday party desserts. Holly will be making the amazing Bourbon Pecan Pie and Pumpkin Pie in an all-butter crust again (as they were so popular for Thanksgiving). Then she will offer a Chocolate Red Wine Cake with pears and marscapone whipped cream. This is a rich, dense cake and you will still be able to taste some of the wine, so perhaps a treat for adults only. Finally, Holly is gracing us with her Cheesecake and topping it with a currant compote. Holly became instantly famous for them after she made one for a farm-to-table dinner. It was quite simply the best cheesecake I have ever had.  She can make it gluten-free, too!

Order your holiday pies and cakes from our new online store or call up the Farmstand: 978-468-2277.

Holly will also be making batches of her pie crusts for you to take home and make your own delicious creations. She will make some all-butter crusts and some with a 50/50 lard and butter mix. If you have never tasted a crust with lard, you have missed out on some incredible flakiness. If you like to bake from scratch, we are also selling our own rendered and non-rendered lard in the store now.

Green Meadows welcomes any and all to attend the re-dedication of our fields to the fallen heroes that served under Major General George Patton on November 10th, 2012 at 10 am. Permanant signs have been place in all of our fields to commemorate their service. Veterans and their families are particularly welcomed and after the dedication there will be a hayride to visit each of the signs around the farm.

Just wanted to let you know that we will be closed tomorrow, Monday, due to Hurricane Sandy. Be safe and stay dry while we weather the storm. Thank you!
